Cost Management
To work with buildings which suffered from a poor internal environment and an aggressive external presence.
To refurbish and extend the existing facilities to create ~12,000m2 of low-energy, highly sustainable office accommodation.
To expand the office area, providing a 200 seat auditorium, large meeting room suite, cafe, restaurant, kitchen facilities and data centre.
To create external works providing two landscaped courtyards.
To achieve a deep cut in energy use - targeting a challenging operational emission rating of 25-30 kg CO2/m2/annum (compared to 100 kg CO2/m2/annum for the existing building).
High-performance facades incorporating extensive solar shading form part of the innovative energy efficient and low carbon strategy.
Engineered natural ventilation, use of thermal mass through the exposure of concrete coffer slabs.
Heat recovery from the onsite data centre and numerous other sustainable technologies.
Increase the buildings capacity to 775 work stations (formerly 650 work stations).
Adoption of new flexible working practices allowing the Council to base over 1,000 staff at the building, providing rationalisation of other office tenures around the county.
In our central role as cost manager we helped ensure that all innovation was checked and balanced.
Elizabeth II Court is a shining example of the cost manager helping to drive and steer the decision making of the design team.
Projects that seek to push the envelope require extra effort to ensure that all the sums really do add up.
