A few weeks after deregulation, we insisted on running the first major competitive bid to bring utilities to a site, saving some 40% on the statutory undertaker’s cost.

We pioneered the new opportunities created in the utilities market following its deregulation in 2000 and we continue to push the boundaries of utilities procurement for major sites.

Today, not only can we reduce our clients’ capital outlay and achieve greater certainty of delivery, we can also apply multi-utility solutions, ‘bundling’ the contestable works for all utilities into one, bringing efficiencies in civil engineering works and other benefits.

The incumbent utility company will adopt correctly installed assets from the contractor, for a fee, but in some cases an independent operator will buy the asset. This provides the operator with an income stream from the asset and the client gains an additional capital contribution.

The importance of utility provisions to any development can never be overstated. Whether dealing with the providers direct or managing ESCo arrangements, the Utilities team has experience that is unique to Davis Langdon.
